Canning Exchange and Tastings Salon
Canning Exchange and Tastings Salon
In conjunction with the current exhibit Nature: Working!, our beloved artist Lee Lee will be hosting an interactive salon to teach you all about food preservation and canning. This event is free and open to the public.
What you can expect:
- Learn how to can and preserve food
- Explore and taste global and local foods
- Exchange recipes and preserves
- Understand the health benefits of lacto-fermentation
- Discuss the importance of eating local and preserving local harvests
Everyone is welcome to attend whether or not you know how to preserve food. Participants who are experienced in preserving are encouraged to share their wisdom.
Canning exchanges have blossomed across the country. Typically, participants bring extra preserves to exchange with others in order to diversify their pantries. If you have preserves to exchange, please bring them. Seeds harvested from the garden are also welcomed for exchanges.
As it is still early in the season to do a full canning exchange, this workshop will focus on sharing recipes and approaches to preserving food from our gardens. We will compile and distribute the recipes as a foundation for a community interested in preserving our food in ways that are beneficial to our health and to the environment.
Recipes will be available for download after the exchange so be sure to check back soon.
